Dolores’ Tale

Spring valley pub’s all closed down.
Sat on the corner of flamingo and jones.
Didn’t know a soul when I slipped into town.
Settled in there just to be around.
A little old lady sat in a queens hat.
Wrapped up tight in a contest dress.
Her Lipstick on like a coloring book.
She was sipping white wine
Wearing opera gloves.
Bartender Cid said stay away from her.
She’s crazy burned out old chorus girl.
I sat down by Dolores.

Dolores has a story, yes she does.
Too tall a tale to ever believe.
Dolores has a story, yes she does.
pictures n parties with Dean, n Frank even JFK
Loneliness tells stories never lived. They stay away.
Dolores is crazy.

She smiled like on a candlelight dinner.
Her Prim and proper royal words flowed.
Asked my name, where was I from?
I really liked Dolores.
Our history books opened up on the bar.
Then, Dolores told stories that rose for the moon.
I didn’t believe them like everyone else.
But it’s good for the lonely to talk.
Months moved on in a Time Machine.
Just Dolores and I with books and old stories.

Dolores has a story, yes she does.
Too tall a tale to ever believe.
Dolores has a story, yes she does.

Loneliness tells stories never lived. They stay away.
Dolores is crazy.

Came in one night, there sat the the queen.
Real Books on the bar in a big brown bag.
Head tilted coy with her colored little smile.
She says the Rumors here nest in my ear
You let a lonely lady talk, so here you go.
Dolores opened a book from the brown bag.
Her history flowed onto the bar.
There she was, beauty queen looks with JFK.
Swimming at sands with Marilyn Monroe.
Holding hands, Dancing with Dean.
But, she loved Bill Medley most.
Dolores is crazy!

Sid came over to see the pics.
Soon, the Whole bar came too.
We were gripped by every word the beauty queen told.
Every photo a story of old Vegas lore.
The crazy life the old showgirl lived.
Time Machine kept going on.
Couldn’t get a seat by Dolores anymore.
But, she moved them over for a lonely young man.
The beauty queen of vegas lore
Knew it was me lonely.
Dolores wasn’t crazy.
